  • New Years Celebrations Ideas + Resolutions
  • Health & Fitness
  • Organization & Time Management

Choose a January Content Theme

Make your marketing easy by setting out a theme for the month. Focus on one theme a month - think traditional magazine publishing.

Themes streamline creation and makes creating an editorial calendar easy. You can create content, related content and images at the same time (batching) to provide cohesive and consistent branding in addition to saving time.  Having a monthly theme provides structure and enables you to use templates.

A theme allows you to get readers coming back for more and keeps readers on your website with related posts. You can post and email around the theme and related aspects. For example the theme for January can be Winter Fun related posts about:

  • outdoor activities - skiing and ice skating, sledding,
  • indoor activities - reading, watching movies, puzzles,
  • create a winter bucket list.
  • best winter vacations
  • gear - clothing to wear and winter fashion,
  • accessories - best accessories for winter activity
  • books - books to read this winter (current, bestsellers), winter books (classic books set in winter or to be read in winter)
  • food - winter comfort food, award show foods

You can create many blog posts, social media posts and email content around the monthly theme.

Celebrate January Holidays

This step is often overlooked but makes content creation easier especially for social media. Use holidays to create sales promotions or celebrate with your followers.

For January you can create a National Trivia Day (January 4th) sale and offer a discount. This can be a 24-48 hour flash sale, a week long sale or even longer.

BONUS TIP: Sale exclusives. You can make sales exclusive by only offering to previous clients, only offering to email subscribers or only offering it on a social media platform for example Facebook.

You can also build campaigns around holidays.

You can create a month long campaign with a January long holiday. A month long campaign can consists of 30 days of posts, a weekly email reminder, or even creating an event around it.

For example this January you can celebrate National Mentoring Month with posts about mentoring in your industry

Create week long campaign with a week holiday. For January find a relevant week long holiday to your audience. This is a great opportunity to offer a free download in your email and/or social media. You can do a survey around the topic as it relates to your business.

And don’t forget to use daily holidays as well. Daily holidays are great to wish your followers a happy holiday or to show behind the scenes how you celebrate it.

Use Templates to Make January Content Creation Easier

Templates are your best friend. Not only do they save time, they provide consistent branding which leads to brand recognition.

Create templates for social media, blog posts, and your emails. Canva is a great tool and makes creating and using templates easy.

My template for January will be based on my theme for January or the product I am promoting that month. I have already laid out all my promotions, themes and campaigns for the year using the 2023 Business Planner.

Batch Create Content and Save Time in January

Don’t fall into the trap of creating one post or one image at a time. Batching is more efficient and is not only more productive it helps with consistency, frequency and cohesiveness. I spend 2 days on content creation. One day for writing the posts and the another day for creating graphics for the blog and social media and scheduling. You can read about my process here.

If you can’t be a month or two ahead try for at least 15 days. Batch create for January at least 2 weeks before. Don’t wait until January 1st to start creating. Use a tool like Canva to batch create your graphics.

Use the 2023 Business Planner to map out your whole year and be prepared for each month.

  • You can create a series of short videos (15-30 seconds) around your theme for January
