In 2016 I became a published author. This is something that has always been at the back of my mind but I had no plan, no idea what I would write. In 2015 I wrote and completed my first book “Authentic Marketing” (yet to be published). It’s about stop following what you’re told and come up with a marketing plan / strategy that’s authentic to you. By the end of 2015 I decided not to publish it but to write a series of how to marketing books and workbooks that will get people to create a plan and strategy, get them start and develop the habit of marketing their business every day. This idea took on a life of its own, 2 books and 7 workbooks all available on Amazon (PDF workbooks available). Then in the 4th quarter of 2016 I opened the Empowerpreneur Toolbox on Etsy (Swag and Tools).
I am amazed at how I did it. Not because I didn’t think I could but because I faced a lot of adversity in 2016.
As Empowerpreneurs we have a lot on our plates, not only are we running a business, we are partners, parents, even children. Our personal lives can and will impact the business. Some days I had to step away from business plans, appointments and activities to deal with personal issues but I was on top of it.
Two tools helped me navigate 2016, persevere and achieve my goals.
1. Leonie Dawson’s Create Your Shining Year Planners and Goal Workbooks
These Workbooks helped to provide clarity around my goals, a place to check in, motivation, inspiration and accountability. Despite the adversity I faced in 2016, I knew that by the end of 2016 I wanted to look in my Workbooks and say I did that.
It was not only a commitment that I made to myself but also as the year went by opportunities would appear and open up to me. This is the power of goal setting, and writing down your goals. I achieved things on my list that I was not actively pursuing.
2. Bullet Journal
In previous years I had notebooks, lists, planners, tons of sticky notes and up to 10 different to do lists going at once. I felt that I was always spinning and not achieving as much as I wanted to. I started bullet journalling and got rid of all those things and put everything in one book, my bullet journal.
It is satisfying when you are able to check things off everyday and that you know is working towards your goals – not busy work and not putting out fires (corporate world). One thing I have always believed is to do one thing towards your goals every day. Until I started Bullet Journalling, I didn’t realize how often my goals were put on hold to pursue things not relevant and things for other people. Bullet Journalling has made me mindful of how I spend my day, my week and my month.
Time is free, but it’s priceless.
You can’t own it, but you can use it.
You can’t keep it, but you can spend it.
Once you lost it you can never get it back.
– Harvey MacKay
Whether you use any of these tools, start 2017 off by setting goals, writing them on paper and reviewing them on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Everyday do at least ONE thing towards your goals. In your daily planner (my bullet journal) commit to one thing that will take you closer to your goal(s).
Achieve More, Be More in 2017!
